Sundae Cafe Tybee Island

Tybee Island is one of Savannah’s best kept secrets. My family and I have spent many summers on this little island off the coast of Savannah, which is filled with many delightful places to feed your appetite. One of my local favorites is the Sundae Cafe, located at the 304 First Street, near the corner of First Street and Jones Avenue. By day, this little restaurant is perfect for lunch on the go. For lunch, Sundae Cafe has the best chicken fingers EVER and a wonderful selection of salads, fried seafood, burgers, and sandwiches, but by night, they break out their white linen table clothes and culinary craft. The cuisine is local low country fare, but there are also an abundance of steak and chops. This past Friday night, 5 of my friends and I enjoyed an outstanding meal.

My 5 friends and I throughly enjoyed our meal. The one regret is not being able to display the Sushi Nachos that we shared for appetizer, but they barely had time to hit the table, yet alone be waited on for a picture. These Sushi Nachos were sashimi grade tuna served on wonton chips with wasabi guacamole, and were insanely delicious.

Above is the dish I enjoyed: Pan seared lump crab cakes with low country risotto and sauteed vegetables. I love their crab cakes because they are breaded in panko breadcrumbs, giving them that extra little crunch. The crab meat was so delicious..and the risotto…wow. I loved the risotto because it was cooked perfectly and was filled with chives, corn, and what I believe was ham. I am a huge fan of okra, and I believe it was the perfect vegetable to compliment this dish.

Above is the rack of lamb with whipped potatoes and creamed spinach. The owner to this dish absolutely raved about it. I am fond of lamb, so I will be trying this next time.

Above is the lobster mac & cheese that my other friend ordered. This is an interesting rendition of lobster mac & cheese because it has sea scallops atop the pasta. I have had this dish before, and though it is a little heavy for my taste, it still smells and looks wonderful.

Above is the pecan chicken, which my boyfriend enjoyed. I tasted this dish and it was very flavorful. I loved the combination of the lima beans and corn for the vegetables, and the potatoes were just to my liking consistency wise. The peach & cranberry chutney atop the chicken was also quite tasty.

Above are 2 pictures of the dessert I enjoyed: Reese’s Peanut Butter Pie. This is my favorite dessert at Sundae Cafe (all their desserts are fabulous).

Sundae Cafe is a restaurant that I highly recommend for lunch or dinner to anyone in the Savannah/Hilton Head area. There is something for everyone to eat here. While the cuisine focuses on seafood, there are still choices of steaks, pork chops, chicken, and salads. To view the menu of Sundae Cafe, click here. If you are visiting Tybee in the summer months and wish to dine here, make sure to make your reservations for dinner in advance!
